Nurzhan goes to the bathroom when Maya is dancing with daniel to give her some private time, while still acting as chaperone Maya and Daniel (Maya's crush) dance together and Maya says this is the most exciting night of her life. Maya goes to the dance and hangs out with all of her friends.

Maya's mother gives her a gold bracelet and expresses that she is starting to understand US Customs. it works and Maya is able to go but under one condition, Nurzhan will chaperone Maya. Nurzhan finds maya's dance permission slip and trys to persuade their parents into letting maya go. She doesn't blame Nurzhan for the fight because a kid was bullying him for not pronouncing words right, so she lied for him Maya is suddenly called into the principal's office and learns that her brother, Nurzhan got into a fight at his school and she needs to get her parents for a meeting. Maya does not think she will be able to get permission from her parents to go to the spring fling (the school dance) because her parents are strict and don't quite understand US Customs yet. Maya is in class and daydreaming about getting permission to go to the dance She starts thinking about ways or statements in the slip to make her parents agree The aunt advertised them and they ended up moving to the US. We are introduced to Maya's family who moved from kazakhstan to seattle, because the family didnt have alot of money.
